Studying with a child
The study concept means that the selection process for students is in the hands of the corporate partners. Full-time attendance is required for the completion of both academic studies and professional workplace training, but working hours in the on-the-job training phase can be reduced to a minimum of 75% in agreement with the company or social institution and the study programme department. The missing time must be made up for following the last academic study phase which usually marks the end of the three-year study period (extension by one academic study phase).
Academic studies are also full-time in nature, but the university strives to provide support for students with children. Agreement is reached in each case with the individual involved, and this governs the exact nature of the support provided.
The DHBW VS cooperates with the Campus Minimus day nursery in Villingen-Schwenningen. Full-time care can be provided here for children from the age of 2 months to 6 years. A contingent of places is reserved for the children of staff and students at the Cooperative State University. Please see below for more information.
Child Care
The “Hochschul-Kita Campus Minimus" day-care nursery was established through the cooperation of the DHBW VS, Furtwangen University (HFU), the Police University (Hochschule für Polizei) and the City of Villingen-Schwenningen. The child care group was opened in May 2010 at the Police University (Hochschule für Polizei) in Schwenningen and can be used by members of all three universities.
Flexible and needs-oriented care
Thirty children up to the age of 6 are cared for in two mixed-age groups. The day-care nursery’s regular opening hours are Mondays to Thursdays from 7.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. and Fridays from 7.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. Child minders at the facility can also be engaged where needed to care for children outside the kindergarten’s normal opening hours.
Building and environs
The kindergarten is located in the entrance area to the Policy University campus (Hochschule für Polizei in VS-Schwenningen). The bright building houses two group rooms, a sleeping room and WC and baby changing facilities. Moreover, the open entrance area offers a space for greeting and saying goodbye to children and chatting with other parents. The entrance to the kindergarten can be reached without entering the campus. Two short-stay parking spaces in front of the building enable direct access to the kindergarten by car. In addition, the entrance door is equipped with a ramp. The kindergarten is surrounded by a small garden, and many options are available in the near vicinity for children to exercise, play and explore nature.
Educational concept
The educational focus is on the development of motor skills and movement, with consideration also given to aspects of natural and Waldorf pedagogy. Care is tailored to meet the individual needs of children and parents.
Meals
Children can have lunch in the Police University refectory (Mensa). A special area has already been put aside here for children from the kindergarten. The refectory kitchen in the university offers a broad range of healthy Mediterranean meals.
